Statistics reveals that Higher Education is Catching on Among Indian Youths

Unbridled passion and enthusiasm of students if put to proper use can bring forth magnificent results. Incessant efforts of the government to educate Indian youths and encourage them to pursue higher education is now bearing fruit.  Data suggests that India is on the course of zapping all the factors that ailed education system. With phenomenal 107% and 86% rise in students enrolled in Bachelor’s and Master’s level courses respectively from the year 2008 to 2016, it can be simply concluded that students are now becoming education-conscious.

  • Students enrolled in PhD programs have surged to 89% from the year 2008 to 2016
  • India saw exorbitant 538% rise in students enrolled in other programs from 2008 to 2016.

Be it Arts, Engineering/Technology, Science, Commerce, Management or Medicine, students are expressing their interests in all streams.

If statistics is to be believed, from 2008 to 2016 students admitted in various streams saw a noticeable rise.

  • There was 75% rise in the students enrolled in Arts.
  • Massive 272% increase in engineering students was registered.
  • Medicine also wooed students and it saw 151% increase in enrollments.
  • With 107% rise in students admitted in science stream, science continues to be a lucrative option for students.
  • Commerce/Management also saw significant 86% rise in students enrolled in various colleges
  • A good 72% rise in students enrolled in other courses was also observed.

However, a dire need to improve the quality of education is still felt and the government has launched a series of initiatives to the better education system. The opening of new universities, colleges and schools is the need of the hour as too many students, despite willing to continue their studies, have to quit for want of colleges in their locality. It is equally important to bolster distance education so that geographical barrier can be dismantled and more and more students could give wings to their dreams.
