Nigerian Government Commits to Improve the Status of Teachers On World Teachers’ Day

In sync with the spirit of World Teachers’ Dar, the Nigerian government said that it will equip teachers with the best tools in order to keep up with the fast-paced world.

Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education said that peace and security and necessary elements for the development of any nation. He said that the teachers play a significant role in nation building and hence they their hard work ought to be acknowledged. The Ministry of Education together with the state ministries is trying to figure out ways to improve the salaries of teachers.

Uchenna Udoji, a representative of UNESCO said it is imperative to reflect on the status of Nigerian teachers and conditions under which they function. He also asked the Nigerian government and the stakeholders to work on finding out ways to improve the teaching profession and provide them with consistent salaries.

The President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Michael Agolba accredited the teachers for their resourcefulness, dedication and resilience.

“The annual observance of this important day has helped to reawaken the consciousness of the nation and its citizenry to the important role of teachers and the need for teachers to be accorded a status commensurate with the role they play in society,” he said.
